Pieces of a Woman

Have you ever wondered what life is? The meaning of life, the adult life which seems to be stuck in an 8 to 5 job, have a little break in the weekend and start the cycle over again on Monday. Is that what you see as life? The movie " Pieces of a Woman" is a fictional story in which anybody could imagine themselves in the shoes of the main character Martha and her partner, Sean, if things go wrong in life.

This movie centers on the life of a woman in her 30s’ who has almost begun her family life. The film starts with a little party for her baby shower where everybody congratulates and showers the new mom-to-be with gifts and well wishes. This scene gives a fresh and blissful feeling that leads the viewers to think that a new life is on its way. Just like normal new parents to be the couple is excited for their baby. The baby room decorations, the pictures, and significantly the polaroid kind of picture frame of the baby’s ultrasound show the excitement of the parents. The home is all set to welcome the new baby. 

The tension starts with Martha’s labor pain. She had planned home delivery for the birth of her child. The delay of the midwife leaves the woman in pain while her partner panics to make things easy for the delivery. This scene successfully shows the intense pain that a woman faces to give birth to another human. The screaming of Martha and her expression of excruciating bodily pain creates frustration and tension in the viewers' minds. The affection of her partner Sean and his efforts to calm her down show their intimate connection. The midwife's arrival takes the messy situation under control and creates the environment for a safe delivery.

After the emotional and the painful physical rollercoaster, Martha birthed a beautiful girl that had the fragrance of an apple. The couple was miserable that their baby died after a little while. This situation is unimaginable yet very true where so many people have gone through similar experiences. The death of the newborn child will turn their lives into misery. The loss of the child will lead Martha into depression while Sean tries to move on and tries for another baby.

Martha is shattered into pieces as if she lost the purpose of life. She struggles to pick up from where she left and finds it hard to manage the basic daily chores. She distances herself from her partner and her family. She tries to get closer to the only memory of her lost child, the fragrance of an apple. Apples are used ironically to illustrate the connection between the mother and the dead child. It seems like she isolates herself in a world full of people with memories of the tragedy. 

On the other aspect of this movie, it shows the efforts of Martha’s mother and Sean to ease their pain by suing the midwife for the negligence that caused the baby's death, while Martha seems to be indulging herself in the fragrance of fresh apples and planting them. It brings out a surprise that Martha shows no interest in bringing “justice” to her child. Unlike any other characters in the movie, she struggles a lot alone. At the court, when Martha confesses that the midwife is not guilty for the death of her child, with that forgiveness, she unties the relationship with Sean. It shows the importance of a child to their mother than anything else in the world. 

She picks herself up and starts the healing process to move on in life. Later on, she adopts a little girl. The massive apple tree in her garden shows that the memories of her child will not be forgotten but embraced by her forever.

These scenarios and emotions of Martha bring out the unspoken struggles of a woman who tragically lost her child. The love of a mother toward her child is the greatest kind of love. Losing a child is pain that can never be put into words. According to this movie, a child is the most significant piece of a woman, which holds the rest of the pieces together.

Hridayam - Story of youth

 

 "Hridayam" is one of the most memorable films of the recent history of Malayalam cinema, which deals with youthful friendship and romance. It released in January 28,2022. Haridayam is written and directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan. It was produced by Visakh Subeamanium through Merryland Cineman. Hesham Abdhul is the composer of the film's songs and blackground score. Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Darshana Rajendran and Aswath Lar are the main film actors of this super movie.If you ask me what kind of film it is, it is not wrong to say that it really touches the heart with a smile on the face, a little weight on the nose, a wet look in the eyes and a loud sigh on the heart.

   The movie begins with Arun boarding a train to join an engineering college.With that beginning there are two main stages of the movie. At the first half of the movie it shows Arun's and his friends' college life,hostel life,love and heartbreak. But the movie comes to its second half, it is even more normal, where Arun finds his Passionated job and meets his lover, get married and has kids. It is the flow of the movie. But the movie is full of  curiosity.

 It is no secret that people with similar heartbeats meet each other spontaneously. Hridayam builds on the wonderful encounter of such a friendly company and lovers and is able to engage in a touching story about you and my life. I do not like to introduce Arun, Antony, Selva, Darshana, Nithya etc. in the story as the characters who come in there, because I want to introduce them as the very familiar acquaintances that we often meet in real life.

 Adolescence is a turning point in the life of any person as they go through a small period of misunderstanding of life and an adult through the throes of experience. In such a season, Arun meets Darshana. Arun meets Maya. Arun meets Nithya. Meet many more friends. Such is the nature of life journeys where the destination is not clear.

 Many people meet but they do not all stop at the same way. But Arun's meeting of Darshana is special. Although the meeting was a more romantic one, the separation of the meeting changed the lives of Arun and Dharshana because of the difficulty of infinite love. It was the stormy season of those lives, the search for life. During that time, Arun receives his light from the light of Selva's friendly lamp.

 I see in Selva the portrayal of the unconditional communicator of unconditional friendship and love, who is confined to a few frames between characters like Arun, Darshana and Nithya, but who say life is good. It is unthinkable how Selva's character, who shows true humanitarian traits, can captivate the minds of movie fans to such an extent. Without the help of Selva's kind friendship, people like Arun are still lost in the journey of life.

 Selva quickly sang his life song and left, turning his fate on the optimistic path of another thousand people around him so that his memory would not sink deeper into their hearts.At one time Arun  asked by Selva what is the ultimate goal of his life. Here, the answer given by Selva is more sensitive and heartfelt. That was "keeping my mother and father happily.what else". Selva was the most realistic and mature publisher of friendly love I have ever seen.

 The probability of getting an answer to the same question varies from time to time. The nature of the answer may also vary. Anyone who enjoys the film will remember the question that was brought to Dharshana Arun on two occasions and the answer that was given only once. Otherwise, I would say this is the best opportunity to watch Hridayam.

 I think the answer to the question without saying it is because the value of the life example that can be obtained from it is high. In the midst of so much misery, life surely offers us the best of opportunities. The great precedent set in the film is that it is worthwhile to pierce it, living in the present, without regretting the past.

 When I watching Haridayam, I felt that it is like a novel because there is a nice relationship between all characteristics of the movie. And also who watched Haridayam for a one time, he or she looking to take a memory lane down to their school or university days. Watching that kind of movie makes us more relax and sensitive. I definitely want to say that who loves Malayalam Cinema, Haridayam is the film which moves you more lover to watch malayalam films.Hridayam has awarded as the best popular movie at the 52nd Kerala State Film Awards. There is no any doubt about that achievement because all film lovers interest that film too much.
